Hanover & District Hospital Thanks Auxiliary for Supporting Wayfinding Project

February 20, 2026

Hanover and District Hospital (HDH) is pleased to recognize the Hanover and District Hospital Auxiliary for its generous financial contribution toward the hospital’s recently completed Wayfinding Project — an initiative designed to make it easier for patients, families, and visitors to navigate the facility with greater ease and confidence.

The Wayfinding Project introduced a consistent, colour-coded symbol system throughout the hospital to help individuals quickly identify departments and key areas. This approach enhances overall accessibility and is particularly supportive for those who may experience language barriers or reading challenges, helping to create a more inclusive, welcoming, and user-friendly environment for everyone who enters the hospital.

The project was developed through collaboration with hospital staff, clinical volunteers, and members of the Patient and Family Advisory Committee. Their collective insights ensured the system was practical, intuitive, and reflective of the real needs of patients and visitors, while also supporting a smoother overall care experience.

“The Wayfinding Project has made a meaningful difference for our patients and families,” said Dana Howes, President and CEO of Hanover and District Hospital. “Hospitals can feel overwhelming, especially during stressful moments, and having clear, colour-coded symbols throughout the building helps people get where they need to go more easily and with greater confidence. This improvement enhances accessibility for everyone particularly those facing language barriers — and supports a more welcoming and patient-centred environment.”

Ellen Edgington, President of the Hanover and District Hospital Auxiliary, shared the Auxiliary’s pride in supporting the initiative. “Our Auxiliary is proud to support projects that directly enhance patient care and comfort. The Wayfinding initiative is a practical improvement that will benefit countless patients and visitors, and we are pleased to contribute to something that makes the hospital experience more positive and accessible for our community.”

HDH extends its sincere appreciation to the Auxiliary for its continued partnership and commitment to initiatives that directly benefit patients and families. Community support such as this plays an important role in strengthening the hospital’s ability to provide compassionate, accessible care close to home. Individuals who are interested in giving back to their community and supporting patient care are encouraged to consider joining the Hanover and District Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary welcomes new members who are passionate about making a difference and helping enhance the hospital experience for patients and families.
